Position Summary: The Harm Reduction Coordinator supports the Syringe Exchange Program by coordinating harm reduction services, outreach, and education for people who use drugs. This role builds trusting relationships, distributes supplies like sterile syringes and naloxone, provides overdose prevention education, and connects participants to health/social services. Works closely with community partners and the prevention team using a compassionate, client-centered approach. Supervises assigned staff and interns within the SEP.
Authority and Independence
The Harm Reduction Coordinator works under general supervision and exercises independent judgment within established policies and procedures. This role requires maintaining confidentiality, supervising team members/interns, managing multiple tasks, and handling client interactions with cultural sensitivity and professionalism.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience; minimum 2 years delivering stigma-free, non-judgmental, culturally responsive services to diverse populations.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong written/oral communication and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and full Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, network with community organizations, and deliver interventions with fidelity to funder standards.
- Demonstrated commitment to harm reduction philosophy, cultural humility, and sensitivity to HIV/chronic illness, LGBTQI+/TGNCNB, and BIPOC communities.
- Flexible team player committed to ACR Health’s mission, vision, and values.
Other Requirements
- Valid NYS driver’s license complying with DMV screening requirements and access to a reliable insured vehicle for travel.
Primary Responsibilities
- Maintain confidentiality per Article 27-F, 42 C.F.R. Part 2, HIPAA, ACR Health policies, and contract obligations; protect agency data.
- Deliver interventions within fidelity to funder standards, department/agency protocols.
- Ensure access to services at Drug User Health Hub/partner locations; collaborate with clinical staff, conduct assessments, referrals, low-barrier case management.
- Supervise SEP team members, peers, and interns; provide training and ensure harm reduction, client-centered care.
- Offer one-on-one interventions, risk reduction counseling, safer use info, treatment readiness assessments, linkages/referrals.
- Ensure accurate client/service records, progress notes, encounters per policy; prepare daily/monthly reports.
- Develop networking with community-based organizations; assist department/agency projects and initiatives.
- Complete 24+ hours of annual curriculum-based training; attend staff meetings, workshops, team building.
- Work collegially with all personnel; represent ACR Health professionally in community/partners.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Harm Reduction Program Manager, Director of Harm Reduction & Prevention, CPO, or CEO.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Location: Syracuse Office Hours per week: 35 Work Schedule: Full Time in Office, occasional evenings and weekends may be required for meetings, workshops, outreach, and events.
