Hypertension, or high blood pressure, means that blood is being pumped through your body with too much force.  The first force occurs as blood pumps out of the heart and into the arteries. The second force is created as the heart rests between heart beats.  Problems of too much force in your circulatory system can put your health at risk, including: vascular weakness, vascular scarring, increased risks of clots, tissue and organ damage from narrow or blocked arteries, and increased workload on the heart muscle which can lead to congestive heart failure.
